Steve Pentland has extensive work experience primarily in software development and engineering roles. Steve started their career as a Technical Support Coop at Sheridan College, where they maintained Windows workstations and developed an automation system using PowerShell. Steve then worked as a Tutor and Research Field Liaison at Sheridan College, where they provided learning support for computer science students and assisted in NSERC funded research projects related to computer vision, machine learning, and Bluetooth peripherals.

In 2016, Steve joined SOTI as a Software Developer, where they worked on software development projects until 2019. Steve then moved to FreshBooks, initially working as a Software Engineer and later as a Senior Software Engineer. At FreshBooks, they contributed to software development and engineering tasks.

Currently, Steve is employed at Nx as a Cloud Engineer/Architect, starting in 2023.

Steve Pentland has an Ontario College Advanced Diploma in Computer Systems Technology - Software Development and Network Engineering from Sheridan College, which they obtained between 2013 and 2015. In 2010 and 2011, they attended Athabasca University, where they studied Computer Science, although they did not obtain a degree from this institution. Additionally, they obtained the Elastic Certified Engineer certification from Elastic in February 2022.
