J.C. Mathieson has a diverse and extensive work experience in the energy and engineering sector. They are currently the Vice President of Distribution Operations at NV5 since November 2022. Prior to that, they worked at Black & Veatch from 2020 to 2022, first as a Senior Project Manager and then as a Project Director, where they were responsible for growth and execution of various power projects, specializing in areas such as wildfire mitigations, renewable integration, microgrid feasibility, and transmission and distribution engineering.
Before joining Black & Veatch, J.C. Mathieson had a long tenure at Pacific Gas and Electric Company, starting in 2006. They held various roles within the company, including Sr. Manager Electric Distribution Asset Strategy and Program Development, Manager of Electric Distribution Strategy, Senior Manager of Enterprise Risk Management, Electric System Reliability Manager, SF Reliability Manager, Supervising Standards Engineer, and Senior Standards Engineer. In these positions, they managed a team of engineers, budgets, and programs to improve system reliability indices and oversee electric distribution strategy.
Prior to joining Pacific Gas and Electric Company, J.C. Mathieson worked as a Distribution Planning Engineer at PG&E from 2001 to 2006, where they were responsible for reliability and capacity planning for a significant portion of San Francisco.
Before entering the utility industry, J.C. Mathieson worked as a Distribution Designer at The Engineering Enterprise from 1996 to 2001, where they designed electrical systems for commercial, industrial, and governmental buildings in Northern California, focusing on electrical layouts, one-line diagrams, panel sizing, and NEC compliance.
J.C. Mathieson obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering with a focus on Power from California Polytechnic State University-San Luis Obispo from 1995 to 1998. Additionally, they obtained a Professional Engineer License in Electrical Engineering from the California State Board of Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors & Geologist in June 2008.
