Alessandro Adelfio has a diverse work experience spanning over several roles and companies. Alessandro started their career in 2005 as a Software Developer at Italtel, where they worked for a few months. Alessandro then moved on to ICAR-CNR in 2008, where they worked as a Software Developer for a few months as well. Following this, they joined Consorzio SIRIO in 2008, where they were also a Software Developer, focusing on wireless sensor networks and control software implementation for marine environment monitoring sensors. In 2010, Alessandro began working at Università degli studi di Palermo as a Software Developer, and later that year, they also started pursuing a PhD at University College Dublin. During their PhD, they focused on machine learning methods, neural networks, data mining, predictive modeling, bioinformatics, and protein function and structure prediction. Alessandro's time at University College Dublin also included roles as a Teaching Assistant and Demonstrator. In 2015, they joined Nuritas as a Data Scientist/Bioinformatician and later became the Head of Data Science in March 2020.

From 2003 to 2009, Alessandro Adelfio pursued their BSc and MSc in Computer Engineering and Artificial Intelligence at the Università degli Studi di Palermo. However, no specific field of study was mentioned for this program.
