Shaoyi Cheng has a diverse work experience, beginning in 2006 as an Undergrad Researcher at the University of Toronto. In 2007, they became a Software Engineer at Altera. From 2009 to 2017, they worked as a Graduate Student Researcher at UC Berkeley. In 2015, they joined Xilinx as a Software Engineer and in 2017, they Co-Founded Numericcal.

Shaoyi Cheng attended the University of Toronto from 2004 to 2009, where they earned a Bachelor of Applied Science (B.A.Sc.) in Electrical and Computer Engineering. shaoyi then went on to the University of California, Berkeley, where they completed their Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Computer Science in 2016.
