Subutai Ahmad has extensive experience in the technology industry, beginning with their role as a Guest Scientist at Siemens in 1991. Subutai then moved to Interval Research in 1993, where they were a Member of Research Staff and conducted research in Machine Learning, Neural Networks/Deep Learning, Computer Vision and Image Processing. In 1996, Subutai co-founded ePlanet, a spin-off from Interval Research, where they were Chief Scientist and then CTO. Subutai created technology and immersive games for kids using real time computer vision and released the first consumer product based on real time vision. In 1999, Subutai became Vice President of Engineering at YesVideo, Inc., where they were responsible for all software application and technology development. Subutai started with three people and when they left, the company had over 100 people and multiple profitable international business lines. In 2005, Subutai became CEO of Numenta, a role they held until 2019. In addition to CEO, they were also Vice President of Research and Engineering. Subutai was responsible for Numenta's research program, which had a broad, long-term research agenda. In 2017, Subutai joined Companion Labs as a Technical Advisor and in 2019, they joined ContinualAI as a member of the Advisory Board.
Subutai Ahmad attended Cornell University from 1982 to 1986, where they earned an A.B. in Computer Science. Subutai then attended the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign from 1986 to 1988, where they earned an M.S. in Computer Science. From 1988 to 1991, they attended the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, where they earned a PhD in Computer Science, and also attended the University of California, Berkeley from 1989 to 1991.
