Nestor Kippes

Director Of Breeding at NuCicer

Nestor Kippes has a strong background in plant breeding, genetic improvement, and genomic research. Their most recent position is as the Genome-Guided Breeding Lead at NuCicer, where they oversee the development of molecular breeding programs and innovative breeding techniques to create new parent lines and commercial varieties. Nestor also manages an accelerated speed breeding platform to streamline generational advancement and reduce time to market. Prior to this, Nestor worked at The Genome Center as both an Assistant Project Scientist and a Postdoctoral Researcher. In these roles, they focused on enhancing the genetic makeup and improving the yield, disease resistance, and essential oil content of mint crops. Nestor also guided the advancement of genetic tools for plant breeding in an orphan crop, with a focus on improving flavor quality, disease resistance, and oil yield. Nestor's earlier experience includes positions as a Postdoctoral Researcher and a Visiting PhD Student at the University of California, Davis. In these roles, they explored wheat development and identified the VRN-4 gene as a major contributor to bread wheat growth habit, contributing to the understanding of wheat domestication and the development of new research tools.

Nestor Kippes holds a PhD in Agronomic Sciences from the University of Buenos Aires. Prior to that, they obtained a BSc/MSc in Biotechnology from the Universidad Nacional de San Martín. Additionally, in December 2015, Nestor Kippes obtained a certification as a Verified Reviewer from Publons.
