Mingwei Sun began their work experience as an Exchange Student at Zhejiang University in 2005. They then worked as an Intern at Nanjing University in 2008. In 2009, Mingwei became a Graduate Research Assistant at Southern Illinois University, Carbondale, a role they held until 2010. From 2010 to 2016, they worked as a Graduate Research Assistant at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine. In 2018, Mingwei started their position as a Teaching Associate at Coastal Carolina University, which lasted until 2020. Currently, they serve as a Project Coordinator at Novogene America since March 2021.

Mingwei Sun completed their Bachelor of Engineering degree in Biological/Biosystems Engineering from Southeast University from 2004 to 2008. Mingwei then pursued further education and obtained a Doctor of Philosophy - PhD in Pharmacology and Neuroscience from Southern Illinois University School of Medicine from 2010 to 2016.
