Yang Liu

Lead Process Engineer, Ms&t at Novavax

Yang Liu has extensive work experience in the field of biotechnology and pharmaceuticals. Yang is currently working at Novavax as the Lead Process Engineer in the MS&T department. In this role, they serve as a subject-matter expert on scale-up tech transfer and technical support for manufacturing nanoparticle vaccines. Yang is also responsible for ensuring process compliance in quality management systems.

Prior to this, Yang worked at MacroGenics, Inc. as a Scientist I in the Process Development department. Yang has also worked at GSK as a Scientist in Process Development, where they focused on upstream process development for mRNA vaccines and mammalian cell culture for therapeutic protein production.

Before joining GSK, Yang served as a Research Scholar at the National Cancer Institute (NCI), where they led the development of stable mammalian cell lines for the production of lentivirus particles and high-quality retroviral particles. Yang also has experience with various mammalian cells and viral vectors.

Yang's early career includes a role as a Graduate Researcher at DKFZ German Cancer Research Center, where they conducted cell culture and was responsible for protein production and characterization. Yang also worked as a Graduate Researcher at China Agricultural University, focusing on microbial bioprocessing.

Yang Liu received a Ph.D. in Virology and Cell Biology from Heidelberg University, which took place from 2009 to 2013. Prior to that, from 2006 to 2009, Yang Liu obtained a Master of Science degree in Microbiology (Microbial Bioprocessing) from China Agricultural University. Additionally, Yang Liu has obtained certifications in JMP Design of Experiment Training from JMP and Matlab Fundamentals Training from the Foundation for Advanced Education in the Sciences (FAES).
