Melissa Liew serves as the Vice President and Global Head of Translational Medicine for Ophthalmology at Novartis Institutes for BioMedical Research (NIBR), a position held since 2011, focusing on converting advanced basic science discoveries into innovative therapies for patients with eye diseases and blindness. Prior roles at NIBR include US Head of Clinical Development & Medical Affairs for Ophthalmology, Therapeutic Area Head for Ophthalmology, and Global Development Executive Director. Prior to NIBR, Melissa worked at Pfizer as Global Clinical Lead for Ophthalmology and served as an Ophthalmologist at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London. Early career research in genetic epidemiology of ophthalmic diseases was conducted at the Wellcome Trust. Melissa holds an MBBS in Medicine from UCL.
