Rita Mercieca

SVP and Chief Administrator at Northwell Health

Rita Mercieca, RN, is senior vice president and the regional executive director of Northwell Health’s Brooklyn Region, as well as chief administrator of the Northwell Health Cancer Institute. In her Boorklyn Region role, she oversees the health system’s strategic affiliation with Maimonides Medical Center and alliance with Wyckoff Heights Medical Center, which were established to deliver high-quality care to the borough’s diverse communities. Ms. Mercieca has also developed a consulting relationship with the newly established One Brooklyn Health System comprised of Brookdale, Interfaith and Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Centers.

In her Cancer Institute role, Rita partners closely with clinical leadership to oversee the Cancer Institute’s strategic, financial, operational and programmatic objectives.

Ms. Mercieca was recently appointed the executive sponsor of the BRIDGES Business Employee Resource Group (BERGs), which consists of team members across the organization who are passionate about cultural diversity and embracing relationship building through understanding and supporting the diversity and inclusion, spiritual and ethical values of the communities Northwell serves. The health system was ranked No. 2 on DiversityInc’s Top Hospitals and Health Systems list — the seventh straight year ranking in the top 10 of hospitals and health systems nationally.

A registered nurse, Ms. Mercieca joined the nursing management team at Long Island Jewish Valley Stream in 2002. In 2008, she was appointed chief nursing officer at Long Island Jewish Forest Hills and, in 2011, she was promoted to executive director. During her tenure at Forest Hills, Ms. Mercieca’s leadership and strategic vision drove significant improvements in the hospital’s financial performance and efficiency measures. Earlier in her career, she held a number of leadership positions at the former St. Vincent’s Hospital and Medical Center.
