Dr. Bas van Schooten-Garcia currently serves as a mathematics teacher at Northgo College since August 2023, following a previous role at Rijnlands Lyceum Wassenaar/International School Wassenaar where mathematics was taught in both English and Dutch. Prior experience includes teaching positions at Vrije School Den Haag and Pasadena Waldorf School, where responsibilities encompassed mathematics, biology, and robotics education. Dr. van Schooten-Garcia earned a PhD in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology from Universidad de Puerto Rico, with research focused on microbial communities and chemosensory genes in Passion-vine butterflies, and also holds an MSc in Ecology and Evolution from the University of Groningen. Additional roles include teaching general biology at Pasadena City College and providing specialized education for students with special needs at Fusion Academy, alongside experience as a junior ecologist and helpdesk employee in governmental settings.
