Leon Altamirano, Psy.D.

Director of Integrated Behavioral Health at TrueCare

Leon Altamirano, Psy.D. has a wide range of work experience in the field of psychology. Leon has served as the Director of Integrated Behavioral Health at TrueCare | Health Inside. Welcome In. since June 2014. Before that, they worked as a Psychologist and Managing Consultant at AB Consulting Services, where they provided immigration hardship and disability evaluations, comprehensive reports, and expert witness testimony. Leon also offered behavioral health consultation, training, education, and needs assessment services to various organizations.

From 2010 to 2014, Altamirano worked as a Clinical Supervisor and Supervisor of the Department of Mental Wellness - Prevention & Early Intervention Program at the Southern Indian Health Council, Inc. In this role, they developed comprehensive psychological evaluations and public health campaigns to decrease the stigma of mental illness and prevent suicides. Leon also coordinated prevention and early intervention programs to facilitate access to care, with a focus on chronic medical conditions, chronic pain, addiction, and Adverse Childhood Experiences in the American Indian and rural population served.

Prior to that, Altamirano worked as a Prevention and Early Intervention Psychologist at the Indian Health Council, Inc. from 2009 to 2010. Leon also served as a Staff Psychologist at the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation from 2007 to 2009.

Earlier in their career, Altamirano held positions at Aurora Behavioral Health Care - San Diego, Alvarado Parkway Institute / Behavioral Health System, Charter Behavioral Health System - San Diego, New Alternatives, Inc., and The Help Group: L.A. Center for Therapy and Education / Project Six Therapeutic Group Homes. These roles encompassed various managerial positions, including Director of Intake and Mobile Assessment Team, Director of Social Services, Director of Assessment Services and Mobile Assessment Team, and Director of Needs Assessments and Referrals. Leon provided treatment for psychiatric and substance abuse/addiction diagnoses across different age groups and also managed specialized programs such as inpatient clinical trials, forensic units, and eating disorders programs.

Altamirano began their career as a Residential Counselor and Intern at New Alternatives, Inc. and The Help Group: L.A. Center for Therapy and Education / Project Six Therapeutic Group Homes, respectively. Overall, their work experience demonstrates a focus on integrated behavioral health, prevention and early intervention, and providing comprehensive psychological evaluations and treatment across diverse populations.

Leon Altamirano, Psy.D. earned their Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in Psychology from UCLA in 1993. Leon then pursued their Master of Arts (M.A.) degree in Marital and Family Therapy from United States International University, which they completed in 1997. Leon furthered their education by attending Alliant International University, where they obtained their Psy.D. in Marital and Family Therapy in 2003.
