Herman Larsen has extensive experience as a project engineer. From 2017 to present, they worked at Norbit Group in the role of Project Engineer. Prior to that, they were employed at KONGSBERG from 2001 to 2017 as a Project Engineer. Before joining KONGSBERG, they worked at Scandinavian Customized Prosthesis as a Project Engineer from 1999 to 2001. From 1997 to 1999, they worked as a Project Engineer at Brødrene Johnsen as. Their early work experience includes working as a Reparasjonstekniker at Hansa Borg Bryggerier AS from 1991 to 1997.

Herman Larsen's education history begins in 1987 when they attended Frydenberg VGS, where they pursued a Naturfagutdanning field of study. Herman completed their studies at this institution in 1990. Larsen then went on to enroll at Østfold University College (HiØ) from 1990 to 1995, where they obtained a Cand.Mag. degree in Integrert Produktutvikling. Finally, in 2018, Larsen attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and participated in the Mastering Design Thinking program, earning a Bachelor of Engineering - BE degree in the process.
