Erik-Jan Lock has a diverse work experience in the field of aquaculture and marine research. Erik-Jan is currently the Research Director at Nofima since 2023. Prior to this, they worked as the Editor in Chief at Wiley-Blackwell, overseeing the Aquaculture Nutrition journal. Erik-Jan also served as a Member of the Strategic Advisory Committee Aquatic and Water Resources at the International Foundation for Science from 2018 onwards. Erik-Jan was an Adjunct Professor at the University of Bergen (UiB), where they contributed to academic research and teaching from 2018 to 2023. Erik-Jan was also a Member of the Working Group on Environmental Interactions of AquaCulture (WGEIA) at the International Council for the Exploration of the Sea (ICES) from 2018 to 2023. Additionally, Erik-Jan was a Research group leader at the Institute of Marine Research (IMR) in Norway, focusing on feed and nutrition, from 2018 to 2023. Before that, they served as a Member of Panel on Animal Feed at the Norwegian Scientific Committee for Food Safety (VKM) from 2014 to 2022. Erik-Jan has also contributed to the National Institute of Nutrition and Seafood Research (NIFES) as the Head of Research, Department Requirement and Welfare, and as a Research Scientist from 2007 to 2017. Erik-Jan began their career as a PhD student at Radboud University Nijmegen, conducting research on the vitamin D endocrine system in fish from 2003 to 2007.

Erik-Jan Lock's education history includes a bachelor's degree in Animal Sciences from Wageningen University & Research, which was obtained between the years 1994 and 1996. Following this, they pursued a master's degree in Aquaculture & Fisheries at the same institution, graduating between 1996 and 2001. Subsequently, they attended Radboud University to pursue a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Fish endocrinology, although the specific start and end years are unknown. Finally, in 2017 and 2018, Erik-Jan Lock attended the Norwegian School of Economics (NHH) to complete the Solstrandprogrammet Accelerate, although the field of study during this program is unspecified.
