Karthik Balakrishnan is the founder and CEO of Nodexus. Prior to starting Nodexus, they were an NDSEG Fellow at the National Defense Science and Engineering Graduate Fellowship, where they developed a platform to isolate and screen single cells. Karthik's work led to funding extensions of over $1M and external partnerships with market leaders.
Before their work at the NDSEG Fellowship, Karthik Balakrishnan was a researcher at Dabiri Biological Propulsion Laboratory, where they used jellyfish as a theoretical model system for fluid dynamic and behavioral aspects of biological propulsion. Karthik also developed a mathematical model of jellyfish wakes to identify manifolds of the flow and study fluid transport.
Karthik Balakrishnan's work in the field of biogels began as a William Hassenzahl Family Fellow at Ravichandran Experimental Solid Mechanics Laboratory, where they studied the mechanical properties of biogels.
Karthik Balakrishnan received a BS with honors in Mechanical Engineering from Caltech and a PhD and MS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley.
