Laurence Gonsalves

Laurence Gonsalves has a long and varied work experience. Laurence began their career in 1994 as a Software Developer (intern) at Sybase Waterloo (nee Watcom), where they programmed in C and C++ on MS-DOS, OS/2, Windows 95, Windows NT and QNX. Laurence then moved on to Virtek Vision International Inc. in 1996, where they worked on Virtek's new generation of engineering laser projection systems in C++ and rewrote software for merging sets of 3D point clouds with different co-ordinate systems. That same year, they also worked as a Software Developer (intern) at Mortice Kern Systems, building a cross-platform chart rendering web server extension in C and a file browser (and tree control and list view controls) in Java. In 1998, they joined Oracle as a Member of Technical Staff, where they worked on Oracle Forms and fixed a ridiculous number of bugs. Laurence then moved to Google in 2000, where they were a Staff Software Engineer and worked on the old AdWords system (“AdWords Classic”). Laurence also built the initial set of fraud controls for AdWords and participated in the overall design of the new AdWords (then called “AdWords Select”). In 2010, they became an Independent Software Developer and Investor, and in 2017 they became the CEO of Niphtio.

Laurence Gonsalves attended the University of Waterloo from 1993 to 1998 and earned a Bachelor of Mathematics degree in Computer Science.
