Maria Jose Lopez Sanchez has a diverse range of work experience in the field of biology and genetics. Maria Jose is currently working as an NGS Project Manager at NIMGenetics since February 2022. Prior to that, they worked as a Senior Researcher at Centro de Biología Molecular Severo Ochoa from November 2015 to November 2021.

Maria also has experience in scientific consulting, where they worked as a Consultant and Scientific Advisor for biocuration of genomes and the development of the web platform IgenBio 2.0 at Integrated Genomics in January 2015.

Maria Jose was a Project Leader at AMAbiotics SAS from April 2014 to January 2015, focusing on studying the link between microbial metabolism, nutrition, and health, particularly related to age-related diseases associated with mitochondrial malfunction.

Maria's work as a Post-Doctoral Researcher includes their time at Genoscope from June 2012 to December 2013, where they were responsible for the expert curation of functional Gene-Protein-Reaction (GPR) associations and metabolic pathways of reference organisms. Prior to that, they worked at the Institut Pasteur from April 2009 to May 2012, studying large chromosomal fragments transfer by conjugation in S. agalactiae and its connection to the CRISPR system.

In addition, Maria had a visiting PhD student role at the Biozentrum der Universität Würzburg in 2007 and worked as a Teaching Assistant at the University of Valencia from 2006 to 2007, where they taught courses on genetic analysis techniques and genetics laboratory.

Maria Jose Lopez Sanchez's education history includes the following:

- From 1998 to 2003, they attended the University of Valencia in Valencia, Spain, where they obtained a Bachelor of Applied Science (BASc) degree in Biology, General.

- In 2003, they also received a Certificate of Pedagogical Aptitude (CAP) from the University of Castilla la Mancha in Albacete, Spain, specializing in Educational specialisation.

- From 2003 to 2005, they pursued further studies at the Cavanilles Institute of Biodiversity and Evolutionary Biology (ICBiBE) in Valencia, Spain, earning a Master of Advanced Studies (MAS) degree in Molecular Genetics and Evolutionary biology.

- Maria continued their education at the same institute, receiving a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Genetics and Evolutionary biology from 2006 to 2009.

Additionally, Maria obtained two additional certifications: a Certificate of Pedagogical Aptitude (CAP) from the University of Castilla la Mancha in December 2003 and a Good Clinical Practice (GCP) Certification from The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) in September 2015.
