Liang Liao has over 20 years of work experience in the pharmaceutical industry. Liang began their career in 1999 as a Research Associate at the Shanghai Institute of Pharmaceutical Industry. In 2006, they moved to the US and became a Postdoctoral Research Associate at The Scripps Research Institute in La Jolla, CA. In 2007, they were hired as a Scientist at Acme Bioscience, Inc. in Palo Alto, CA. In 2010, they joined Onyx Pharmaceuticals, Inc. as a Scientist I and was promoted to Scientist II in the same year. Liang also held a role as Senior Chemist at AnaSpec / Eurogentec, a Kaneca group company, in Fremont, CA. In 2015, they moved to Global Blood Therapeutics as a Manager and Senior Manager of Chemical Development. Liang then joined Relypsa as a Senior Scientist of CMC. In 2018, they were hired at UNITY Biotechnology as an Associate Director and Director of Chemical Development and Drug Substance Manufacturing. Liang is currently employed at NiKang Therapeutics Inc. as the Senior Director of CMC.

Liang Liao completed a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Organic Chemistry from Chongqing University, followed by a Master of Science (MSc) in Organic Chemistry from Dalian University of Technology. Liang then completed a Doctorate in Organic Chemistry from the University of Guelph, Canada. Liang then completed a Postdoc at the Scripps Research Institute in La Jolla, CA in 2007.
