Gordon H E Smith has a strong background in finance, with over 20 years of experience. Gordon is currently the Head of Finance at NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, a role they began in 2023. Prior to that, they served as Deputy Director of Finance and later Head of Finance at NHS Lanarkshire from 2014 to 2023. Gordon also worked as a Management Accounts Manager at Skills Development Scotland from 2010 to 2014. Earlier in their career, they held positions such as Finance Business Partner at Glasgow Caledonian University, Senior Finance Executive at Scottish Enterprise, Financial Accountant at PKF (UK) LLP, and Financial Accountant at Hardie Caldwell LLP.

Gordon H E Smith obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Accountancy from Glasgow Caledonian University between 1995 and 1998. Prior to that, they attended Hutchesons' Grammar School from 1987 to 1992. Gordon also briefly attended Penilee Secondary School in 1992 and 1993. In addition to their academic qualifications, they hold the certification of Fellow Chartered and Certified Accountant (FCCA) from the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA).
