Marc Elzweig

Senior Counsel, Commercial And Privacy at Nextdoor

Marc Elzweig has extensive experience in the legal field, specializing in privacy and data protection as well as intellectual property transactions.

Starting in 1999, Elzweig worked as a Senior Operations Engineer at LogicaCMG until 2003. Marc then joined Cingular Wireless as the Manager of Operations, where they were responsible for maintaining systems related to customer verification for mobile messaging and data services.

In 2008, Elzweig interned at the United States Attorney's Office before becoming a Summer Associate at Fenwick & West LLP. Marc also worked as a Research Assistant at the University of Chicago Law School during this time.

Elzweig's legal career began in 2010 at Fenwick & West, where they held the positions of Staff Attorney and Associate. In these roles, they handled patent and complex commercial litigation, as well as provided advice on data privacy matters.

From 2014 to 2016, Elzweig worked as an Associate at Baker McKenzie, focusing on international commercial and IT/communications law. Marc advised clients on commercial transactions, data protection and privacy, and conducted IP diligence for M&A transactions.

Most recently, Elzweig served as a Senior Associate at Shearman & Sterling LLP from 2016 to 2022. In this role, they represented clients across various industries, providing guidance on IP, privacy, and data security matters. Marc also worked on corporate transactions and other commercial and transactional matters.

In 2022, Elzweig joined Nextdoor as a Senior Counsel, specializing in commercial and privacy law.

Marc Elzweig obtained their J.D. degree from the University of Chicago Law School, which they attended from 2006 to 2009. Prior to that, they pursued a B.S. degree at Tufts University from 1993 to 1998, majoring in Computer Science, Music, and Philosophy. In November 2017, they also obtained a certification as a Certified Information Privacy Technologist (CIPT) from the IAPP - International Association of Privacy Professionals.
