Bret Shirley has an extensive background in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industry. Bret is currently serving as the Vice President of Manufacturing Development and Operations at Nexstone Immunology since 2022. Prior to that, they held the role of Vice President of CMC at Flame Biosciences from 2020 to 2022. From 2016 to 2020, they worked as the Vice President of Pharmaceutical Development & Manufacturing at Syndax Pharmaceuticals.

Before that, Bret Shirley served as the Senior Director of Pharmaceutical Development & Clinical Supply Chain at Receptos, Inc. from 2013 to 2016. Bret also held the position of Senior Scientific Consultant at CBR International from 2012 to 2013. From 2004 to 2011, they served as the Senior Director of Pharmaceutical & Process Development at Stryker Regenerative Medicine.

Bret Shirley's earlier roles include being an Associate Director of Formulation & Analytical Development at Altus Pharmaceuticals from 2003 to 2004, an Associate Director of Formulation Development at Syntonix Pharmaceuticals from 2002 to 2003, and a Senior Scientist in Formulation Development at Chiron Corporation from 1996 to 2001.

Bret began their career in the industry as a Staff Scientist in Formulation Development at Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals, where they worked from 1991 to 1996. Overall, Bret Shirley has held progressively senior positions throughout their career, gaining significant experience in pharmaceutical development and manufacturing.

Bret Shirley obtained their Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry from Harding University, where they attended from 1981 to 1986. Following this, they pursued their Ph.D. in Biochemistry at Texas A&M University, which they completed between 1986 and 1990.
