Joseph Duffey is the President and Chief Executive Officer for NewCourtland and oversees the senior management team. Prior to assuming this role in late 2018, Mr. Duffey served on NewCourtland’s Board of Directors for over 17 years as Vice Chair, Treasurer and more recently as Chair.

Mr. Duffey began his career working for his family’s retail heating business in 1973. He managed the business through the turbulence of the second oil embargo in 1979 and negotiated the acquisition of several competing companies. He served as its President from 1986 through 2000.

In 1991 Mr. Duffey founded Compass Management Partners, where he serves as Managing Partner. He is responsible for strategy formulation, business plan development and the implementation of management tools and processes for building successful companies. Compass is active in the oversight, acquisition, and management of privately-owned early stage companies.

Throughout his career, Mr. Duffey has been a key figure in the executive management of numerous operating companies representing a wide-range of industries, including pharmaceuticals and life science, manufacturing and consumer products, hospitality and real estate development.

Mr. Duffey earned his Master of Business Administration from the Harvard Business School and his Bachelor of Business Administration from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. He currently serves as a director on the board of Gel Med Sciences, Inc. and Melmark, Inc.
