Alan Jones is a Senior Scientist at Scion since May 2019, leading multi-year research projects focused on improving forest resource management and developing resilient forests optimized for carbon, biodiversity, timber production, and bioenergy. Prior roles include Research Leader at Scion, where a team of fifteen researchers was managed, and Chair of the Forest Ecology Group for the British Ecological Society. Alan has also worked as a Research Manager at Earthwatch Institute, leading corporate teams in climate change research, and served as a Lecturer in Physical Geography at Hertford College, University of Oxford. Additional experience includes postdoctoral research at Aberystwyth University, a Case Study Leader for the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, and roles in other academic and research settings. Alan holds a PhD in Ecology from Imperial College London and a BSc in Environmental Science from Kingston University.
