Al Marlin has a diverse work experience in the field of communications and media. Al started their career in 1982 as a News Operations Manager and Videographer at CBS6-WRGB. Al managed and scheduled a 50-person staff, hired videographers and news assistants, and produced 8 hours of daily newscasts. In 2000, they became the Director of News Operations at WCBS | CBS New York, where they were a member of the news and sports management team, managed budgets, and hired and managed staff. From 2001 to 2007, they served as the Vice President and General Manager of Time Warner Cable News, overseeing Upstate New York Newschannels and Albany Sportschannel. During their tenure, the newschannel received an Emmy Award and the Edward R. Murrow Award for best news website. In 2008, they joined Azcar as a Senior Project Manager, responsible for launching and upgrading multiple television stations, including the HD upgrade for Univision in Puerto Rico. Since 2012, they have been working at the New York State School Boards Association, first as a Communications Manager and currently as the Deputy Director of Communications. In this role, they manage communications efforts, works on key projects, and serves as the association's media contact for education-related stories.
From 1978 to 1980, Al Marlin attended The Sage Colleges - Russell Sage College, where they earned an Associate of Arts and Sciences (AAS) degree in Communications and English. Following this, they pursued further education at the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University from 1980 to 1982, obtaining a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Journalism.
