Kanchan Upadhyay is a Senior Energy Market Engineer at NYISO since July 2019, responsible for leading market design projects that enhance energy market efficiency in New York, focusing on grid ancillary services. Key achievements include co-developing the Nodal Operating Reserves market design in collaboration with Hitachi Energy and implementing optimization modeling through Python scripting. Prior to this role, Kanchan served as an Energy Market Design Specialist, directing projects related to shortage pricing mechanisms and participation models for new resource types. Kanchan has experience as an Energy Research Intern at Oak Ridge National Laboratory and has held engineering roles at National Hydro-electric Power Corporation, where project contributions included detailed reports and technical specifications for hydropower projects. Kanchan holds a Master’s degree in Energy Science Technology and Policy from Carnegie Mellon University and a Bachelor of Technology in Electrical Engineering from Govind Ballabh Pant Krishi Evam Praudyogik Vishwavidyalaya.
