Aashu Bedrae

Geotechnical Engineer-in-training at New Gold

Aashu Bedrae has a strong background in engineering and construction. Starting in 2018, Aashu worked as a Rebar man Engineer for ANM CONSTRUCTION TECHNOLOGIES for five months. This role likely involved working with reinforcing steel bars in construction projects. Later in 2018, Aashu transitioned to a role as a Site Engineer for Apoorva Constructions. In this position, Aashu was responsible for quantity estimation, monitoring material cost estimation, inspecting project sites, and tracking contracts. Aashu held this role until April 2019.

Following this, Aashu joined Carleton University in 2019 as a Graduate Research and Teaching Assistant. Aashu worked with undergraduate labs and classes, handling student safety and creating assignments and projects to facilitate learning. Aashu was nominated for the Outstanding TA award for the 2020-21 academic year.

In 2020, Aashu became a Departmental Steward for CUPE 4600, where they assisted teaching assistants in the same department with issue resolution and provided assistance and resources for online sessions. Aashu worked as a liaison between the teaching assistants and CUPE local 4600. This role lasted until March 2022.

Finally, in 2022, Aashu joined New Gold Inc. as a Geotechnical Engineer-In-Training. In this position, Aashu conducted geotechnical assessments related to mining projects, deployed geotechnical instruments, and developed remote communications. Aashu's tenure with New Gold Inc. is ongoing.

Aashu Bedrae has a strong educational background in civil engineering. They obtained a Bachelor of Engineering degree from Visvesvaraya Technological University, graduating in 2018. Aashu then pursued further studies, completing a Master of Engineering degree in Civil Engineering at Carleton University from 2019 to 2021. During this time, they also participated in an exchange program at the University of Ottawa, where they studied as a Master of Engineering exchange student specializing in Civil Engineering from 2019 to 2021.

Additionally, Aashu has obtained several certifications and completed numerous courses to enhance their professional skills. They obtained a Pilot Certificate in Small Remotely Piloted Aircraft (VLOS) Advanced Operations from Transport Canada - Transports Canada in August 2022. They also acquired certifications in Mineplan 3D from Hexagon Mining in June 2023 and DJI Matrice 300 RTK Aircraft from Volatus Aerospace in October 2022. Furthermore, they have completed various online courses related to construction management and project management, including certifications in Construction Estimating, Construction Management Foundations, Lean Construction, Risk Management, Planning and Scheduling, Reading Drawings & Specifications, Safety & Health, Technology on the Jobsite, Modern Project Management in Microsoft 365, SketchUp 2020 Essential Training, Stay Ahead in Construction Management, BIM Foundations, Learning Microsoft Project, and On the Job Site: Construction.

Overall, Aashu has a diverse educational background in civil engineering, complemented by valuable certifications and professional development courses that showcase their dedication to continuous learning and skill enhancement in their field.
