Gyanendra Kumar has a strong background in computational chemistry and structural biology. Gyanendra is currently serving as the Director of Computational Chemistry & Structural Biology at Neuron23 since July 2023. Prior to this role, they worked as the Associate Director of Computational Chemistry & Structural Biology at the same company from May 2021 to June 2023.
From 2018 to 2021, Gyanendra worked at BioMarin Pharmaceutical Inc. in various positions. Gyanendra started as a Scientist II - Structure-Based Drug Design in August 2018 and was promoted to Senior Scientist I - Structure-Based Drug Design in September 2020. At BioMarin, they provided molecular modeling, computational chemistry, and structural biology support for drug discovery projects focused on rare diseases. Their work included virtual screening, hit to lead optimization, structure-based design, X-Ray crystallography, and managing external resources for gene to structure projects.
Prior to their time at BioMarin, Gyanendra worked at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital from 2012 to 2018. Gyanendra served as a Structural Biologist - Postdoc from October 2012 to August 2016, where they identified novel inhibitors of the Influenza virus endonuclease and designed small molecule inhibitors in collaboration with other teams. Gyanendra also worked as a Structural Biologist - Associate Scientist from October 2016 to August 2018, where they contributed to various projects by providing structural biology and computational chemistry expertise.
Gyanendra started their career as a Computational Chemist - Postdoc at Brookhaven National Laboratory from September 2007 to September 2012. During this time, they designed peptide-based and small molecule inhibitors of the Botulinum neurotoxin protease activity and determined crystal structures of a sugar kinase.
Overall, Gyanendra Kumar has a diverse work experience in computational chemistry and structural biology, with a focus on drug discovery for rare diseases.
Gyanendra Kumar completed their education in a chronological order. Gyanendra started their academic journey by pursuing a Master's Degree in Life Sciences from Jawaharlal Nehru University, which they completed in 2000. Following that, they pursued an Advanced Postgraduate Diploma in Bioinformatics from the same university, completing it in 2001. Gyanendra then went on to achieve a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Biochemistry, Biophysics, and Molecular Biology from the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) between 2001 and 2007.
