Chongyang Du has five years of work experience. In 2021, they began working at Net Purpose as a Senior Equity Analyst and ESG Research Associate. In 2018, they began working at BNP Paribas Corporate and Institutional Banking as an ESG Analyst. From 2012 to 2017, they were a Ph.D. Candidate of the MIT-Portugal Program (Sustainable Energy Systems) at the University of Coimbra, where they evaluated life-cycle environmental, public health, and social impacts of sugarcane supply chains in Brazil, developed novel methods to identify and quantify environmental and social impacts of supply chains, and applied multi-criteria decision analysis to support decision making based on impact assessment results. In 2017, they worked as a Trainee at HAITONG, where they played a key supportive and project management role for the fund set-up process of the first China-backed RAIF fund domiciled in Luxembourg, lead the tasks of due diligence and custody account set-up, and researched on the topic of sustainable investment. In 2011, they worked as a Research Intern at Dogwood Alliance, where they researched impacts of woody biomass power generation on human health and climate change and independently compiled a white paper Woody Biomass Power Generation and Human Health, in support of the NGO’s policy positioning.
Chongyang Du obtained a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science from Renmin University of China in 2010. Chongyang then went on to obtain a Master of Science in Environmental Management (energy and environment) from the Nicholas School of the Environment at Duke University in 2012. In 2018, they completed a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in the MIT-Portugal Program (Sustainable Energy Systems) from Universidade de Coimbra. In addition, they have obtained certifications such as passing the CFA Level I exam in 2019, Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) and a certification of participation in social entrepreneurship bootcamp from the IES-Social Business School.
