Shondra Mattos has a diverse work experience in various roles related to lactation and parenting support. Shondra is currently working as a Lead IBCLC at Nest Collaborative since 2022. Prior to this, Shondra worked as an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) at Mattos Lactation from 2018 onwards. In this role, they provided prenatal and postpartum breastfeeding education, assessed infant feeding and milk transfer, and instructed parents on optimal infant feeding. Shondra also developed evidence-based care plans, maintained client confidentiality, and collaborated with the healthcare team by sending visit notes to parents and baby's providers and providing appropriate referrals.
Before joining Mattos Lactation, Shondra was the Owner/CEO/Education Director at Lactnerd LLC from 2020 onwards. Additionally, they worked as a Breast Pump Product Representative at Military Mommies from 2019 onwards. Shondra gained accreditation as a La Leche League Leader at La Leche League International starting from 2016.
Prior to their work in lactation consulting and parenting support, Shondra provided prenatal and postpartum breastfeeding support and education as a Lactation Professional & Doula at Shondra Mattos Birth & Lactation Services from 2013 to 2018. During this time, they also helped families identify and accomplish their birth and/or breastfeeding goals and provided physical and emotional support to parents in the early postpartum period.
Before transitioning their career to lactation and parenting support, Shondra worked in the US Army as a Cryptologic Spanish Linguist/Analyst from 2010 to 2013.
Shondra Mattos has a diverse educational background in the healthcare field. In 2010-2011, they attended the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center where they studied Spanish Language and Literature. In 2013, they furthered their education by completing a course in Lactation Consulting at Lactation Education Resources. Shondra also pursued additional certifications in the field, obtaining the title of Certified Breastfeeding Specialist from Lactation Education Resources in December 2014.
In 2014-2015, Shondra attended two institutions simultaneously. Shondra studied Health Professions and Related Clinical Sciences, as well as Health Services/Allied Health/Health Sciences, General at Austin Community College and MYCAA respectively.
To enhance their expertise, they also completed courses in Health and Wellness at Birth Arts International and DONA International in 2014 and 2013 respectively.
In December 2019, Shondra acquired the International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) certification from the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners (IBLCE).
