Franklin Woolfson

Firmware Manager at Natron Energy

Franklin Woolfson has a decade of experience in firmware engineering. Franklin began their career in 2008 as a Senior Firmware Engineer at Trimble Navigation, where they designed in-cab computer software on CPU running using Linux, QT, C++ and fixed kernel space bugs. Franklin also designed firmware on micro controllers using Trimble proprietary OS, C for planters, seeders and sprayers ECUs (devices). In 2014, they took a Senior Firmware Engineer role at Imergy Power Systems, a startup that develops and manufactures flow battery energy storage technology. Franklin took on a software supervisory role supervising the PLC development, testing and documented the 5KW 30KWh Energy Storage device (ESP) project. Franklin also architected and implemented an IoT Java application to monitor/ control and configure the ESP for customers and field engineers. In 2016, they became a Senior Firmware Engineer at NeoPhotonics, where they developed MDIO protocol drivers and interface programmed in C/C++ for fiber optics on high speed internet transceivers and components for data centers and backbone internet connectivity. Franklin then became a Senior Firmware Engineer (Contractor) at Zoox in 2018, where they developed CAN and flash drivers for various ECUs for an autonomous vehicles. Franklin was then a Senior Firmware Engineer (Contractor) at Renesas Semiconductor KL Sdn Bhd, where they designed and developed drivers and BSP for small footprint MCUs. In 2019, they were a Senior Software Engineer (Contractor) at Johnson & Johnson, where they developed a mobile bed with motors controlling X,Y and Z-axis, back, seat and legs. Franklin was also a Senior Firmware Engineer (Contractor) at Bigfoot Biomedical, where they wrote component, unit tests, and documentation to IEC 62304 standards. In 2021, they became a Senior Firmware Engineer (Contractor) at Zero Motorcycles Inc. and in 2022, they became a Senior Firmware Engineer at Natron Energy.

Franklin Woolfson obtained a Postgraduate Diploma in Computer Studies (Software Engineering) from Glasgow Caledonian University in 1991. Prior to that, they received a Higher National Diploma in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Edinburgh Napier University in 1988.
