Joydip Kundu

Acting Deputy Assistant Director, Computer & Information Sciences & Engineering at National Science Foundation

Joydip Kundu is an Indian-American scientist who specializes in tissue engineering and regenerative medicine. Joydip is currently the Acting Deputy Assistant Director for Computer & Information Sciences & Engineering at the National Science Foundation.

Kundu received their undergraduate degree in chemical engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology in Kharagpur. Joydip then went on to earn their PhD in bioengineering from Pohang University of Science and Technology in South Korea.

After completing their PhD, Kundu became a postdoctoral research fellow at Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts. In this role, they worked on developing new methods for treating retinal degeneration. Joydip was successful in decellularizing porcine retinal ECM and fabricating substrates for RPC transplantation. Joydip also studied RPC survival, proliferation, migration, differentiation, and integration into an ex-vivo retinal explant culture model.

In 2014, Kundu was promoted to associate research scientist at Northeastern University. Joydip held this position until 2021, when they were appointed to their current role at the National Science Foundation.

Joydip Kundu has a PhD in Biotechnology from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur. Joydip also has an M Tech in Biomedical engineering from Jadavpur University and a B Pharm in Pharmaceutical Technology from Jadavpur University. Joydip has also completed their Higher Secondary education in Science from Hooghly Mahsin College.

Joydip Kundu reports to Margaret Martonosi, Assistant Director, Computer & Information Sciences & Engineering.
