Hetan Shah is the Chief Executive of The British Academy since February 2020 and serves as Chair of Our World in Data from 2023. In 2024, Hetan will take on the role of Non Executive Board Member at the UK National Audit Office. Additionally, Hetan is a Visiting Professor at King's College London, a Fellow at Birkbeck, University of London, and serves on the Advisory Board of the Bennett Institute for Public Policy. As a Governor of the National Institute of Economic and Social Research and Commissioner for the Social Metrics Commission, Hetan focuses on developing new poverty metrics for the UK. Past roles include Board Member at The Legal Education Foundation and Advisory Board member for the UK Pandemic Ethics Accelerator. Educational qualifications include a BA in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics from the University of Oxford, a Postgraduate Diploma in Law from Nottingham Law School, an MA in Contemporary History and Politics, and a Postgraduate Certificate in Economics from Birkbeck, University of London.
