Chris Hines has gained a diverse range of work experience throughout their career. Chris started working at CDW as a Corporate Account Manager from 2005 to 2009. In 2010, they joined the U.S. Department of State as a Fellow for Young Turkey, Young America. From 2010 to 2013, they worked at APOPO, where they held roles as a Finance & Administration Manager and later as a Development Director. In 2014, they became the Executive Director of Gray's Reef National Marine Sanctuary Foundation. During the same period, from 2014 to 2016, they also worked as a Partnership Coordinator at NOAA (National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration). Chris then rose to the position of Deputy Superintendent at NOAA from 2016 to 2018. Currently, they are serving as the Strategic Partnerships Director, Education at the National Geographic Society, a role they have held since 2018.
Chris Hines has a diverse education history. Chris obtained a Bachelor's degree in Business Management from Purdue University, where they attended from 2000 to 2004. Chris then pursued further education and obtained a Master's degree in International Public Service from DePaul University, where they enrolled from 2009 to 2010.
In addition to their formal education, Chris has also obtained several certifications throughout their career. Chris received an ESL Teaching Certificate from Oxford Seminars in June 2009. Later, in August 2014, they acquired certification as a Rescue Diver from PADI and a Diving Emergency Management Provider from the Divers Alert Network. In 2015, Chris added a First Aid/CPR/AED Certificate from the American Red Cross and became a NOAA Diver certified by the National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration. Furthermore, they completed the Principles & Techniques of Fundraising program at Indiana University Lilly Family School of Philanthropy in November 2015. Subsequently, they earned a Management Leadership Program certificate from National Geographic in February 2020. Most recently, Chris obtained an Autism Certificate from the International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Standards (IBCCES) in March 2019 and acquired Inclusive Leadership certification from the University of Colorado in January 2022. In April 2023, they earned the Inclusive Changemaker certification from the National Geographic Society.
