Wenhui Du has over 20 years of experience in the solar cell industry. From 1994 to 1997, they worked as a Researcher at the Institute of Semiconductors, Chinese Academy of Sciences. During this time, they researched Multi-wafer Liquid Phase Expitaxy (LPE) and MOCVD, and fabricated high efficiency AlGaAs/GaAs, GaInP/GaAs/Ge solar cells. From 1997 to 1998, they were a Visiting Researcher at Fraunhofer-Institut für Solare Energiesysteme ISE, where they worked with LPE AlGaAs/GaAs material and fabricated high efficiency AlGaAs/GaAs solar cells. From 2000 to 2008, they were a Postdoctoral Fellow and then a PhD Student at The University of Toledo, where they studied phase transition from a-Si to nc-Si, and fabricated flexible a-Si, nc-Si, a-SiGe based multi-junction solar cells. From 2008 to 2014, they were a Senior Research Scientist at Xunlight Corporation, where they developed PECVD/Sputtering process for thin film Si solar cell fabrication on a 3ft wide flexible stainless steel substrate, and was in charge of the front end production team to fabricate a-Si:H based triple junction solar cells using a 25MW PECVD/PVD roll to roll production line. From 2014 to 2018, they were the Director of PV Technology at Xunlight (Kunshan) Co., Ltd., where they worked on process development using Al2O3, SiNx, a-Si films in heterojunction c-Si solar cells and PERC (Passivated Emitter and Rear Contact) c-Si solar cells as passivation layers. Wenhui also had machine building experience, and optimized reaction chamber for an industry scale large area PECVD cluster tool. Finally, from 2018 to present, they have been a Senior Process Engineer at NanoFlex Power Corporation, where they have worked on small molecular heterojunction organic solar cell development, characterization, and yield optimization, as well as fabricating protype OPV modules based on glass substrate, investigating encapsulation techniques, and performing environmental testing on OPV modules. Wenhui has also optimized epilayer lift off technique to transfer III-V group solar cells from GaAs substrate to polymer substrate.
Wenhui Du obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Physics from The University of Toledo between 2000 and 2005. Prior to that, they earned a Bachelor's Degree in Materials Science from Lanzhou University between 1990 and 1994.
