Melanie Marquez Parra has extensive work experience in the field of communications and media. Melanie Marquez is currently serving as the Chief Communications Officer at the National Association for College Admission Counseling since 2022. Before their current role, they held various positions at the University of Colorado Boulder, including Director of Communications and Chief Spokesperson, Interim Director of Communications and Chief Spokesperson, and Spokesperson and Assistant Director of Communications. Prior to that, they worked as the Director of Strategic Communications and Public Information Officer at Pinellas County Schools from 2012 to 2018. Melanie Marquez also worked as the Assistant Director of News and Information at USF St. Petersburg from 2007 to 2012 and began their career as a Reporter at Bradenton Herald from 2006 to 2007.

Melanie Marquez Parra attended the University of Florida from 2001 to 2005, where they earned a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Journalism. Melanie Marquez obtained their B.S. Journalism certification from the University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications in December 2005.
