Taniya Alexander

Taniya Benedict was employed as a lawyer at Fragomen from April 2014 to May 2015, where they provided advice and assistance to refugees and asylum seekers in relation to their immigration rights under the Immigration Advice and Application Assistance Scheme (IAAAS). Ms. Benedict’s responsibilities included interviewing applicants, preparing and filing protection visa applications, drafting legal documents and legal advice, drafting legal submissions, interpreting and applying domestic and international legal instruments, advocating at department interviews and judicial review tribunals, conducting legal research, and liaising with both domestic and global government departments and non-government organizations.

Ms. Benedict began their career as a legal intern at the Department of Justice and Community Safety in Victoria from June 2011 to August 2011. Taniya then went on to work as a lawyer at Fragomen from November 2011 to February 2014.

Taniya Benedict undertook their tertiary education at Monash University, where they completed a Bachelor of Arts (Behavioural Studies)/ Bachelor of Laws. Taniya then undertook a Postgraduate Diploma of Legal Practice at Leo Cussen Centre for Law. Benedict is currently undertaking a Master of Laws - LLM at the University of Melbourne in the field of International Law and Development.

They work with Colleen Furman - Chief Marketing Officer, Chris Barr - Chief Technology Officer, and Nicki Pezzulo - Chief Development Director. Taniya Benedict reports to Tanyella Evans, Chief Executive Officer. Some direct reports include Amos Furaha - New Market Lead, Consolata Otondi - Accountant/Auditor, and D&G - Pro Bono Legal Firm.
