Amber Aranui

Curator Mātauranga Māori at Te Papa

Amber Aranui has extensive experience in Māori Studies and archaeology, currently serving as Curator Mātauranga Māori and Repatriation Researcher & Archaeologist at the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa since September 2008. Previously, Amber held the position of Archaeologist and Contract Heritage Consultant at Opus International Consultants Limited and worked as a contractor for the Department of Conservation, focusing on field surveys and research. In addition to these roles, Amber has contributed as a Board Member for both the National Army Museum Waiouru from August 2020 to May 2024 and Museums Aotearoa from July 2021 to January 2023. Amber holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Māori Studies from Victoria University of Wellington, an MA in Archaeology from The University of Auckland, and a BA in Anthropology and Religious Studies from Victoria University of Wellington.
