Geoff Molson

Owner, President & CEO at Montréal Canadiens

Geoff Molson, 48, was born and raised in Montreal and, like his brothers, has been a Canadiens fan going back to the days when the Molson Brewery owned the team.

As a student Geoff Molson got his first summer job at Molson Breweries as a sales and marketing representative. In 1992, upon graduating with a Bachelor of Arts with a Major combining Economics, French and Canadian Studies from St. Lawrence University, in Canton, NY, he joined the Coca-Cola Company, in Atlanta, Georgia, as a Global Media Services Assistant responsible for the development of international marketing/media situation analysis for several world markets.

From 1994 to 1996 he attended Babson College, in Boston, where he earned an MBA before moving to Manhattan where he accepted the position of senior consultant at the strategy consultancy firm CSC Consulting (formerly The Kalchas Group).

He returned to the Molson Brewery in 1999, first in Toronto and then in Denver, Colorado as vice president of marketing, he position he held until 2005. Back in his hometown, he was vice president of marketing for Molson, playing a strategic role in the development of company brands and strengthening partnerships with key stakeholders. During that time he was also a member of the Board of Directors of Molson Coors Brewing and Res Publica.

In December 2009, he became Chairman of the Board of Directors and general partner with Molson and, a few months later he was successful in his bid to acquire the Montreal Canadiens and the Bell Centre. In 2011, he took over as president and CEO of the Club de hockey Canadien.

He sits on several boards, including the NHL Board of Governors, the Hockey Hall of Fame and several charities.

In Montreal, where he lives with his wife Kate and their four children, community is a priority. In the city of the original Molson Brewery, the long-standing tradition of giving back is not forgotten. Geoff is a member of the Plus Mieux Guérir (Sainte-Justine) and the Campus Montreal (HEC, Polytechnique, Université de Montréal) fundraising committees. He also sits on the board of the Molson family foundation to support philanthropic initiatives across Canada, and continues to serve on the board of the St. Mary's Hospital Foundation, the Montreal Canadiens Children's Foundation and the Molson Family Foundation as well as the Molson Coors Canada Donations Fund and the Molson Coors Foundation.

Geoff was appointed to the Order of Canada in 2020, in honor of his "entrepreneurial leadership and for his philanthropic contributions, notably through the family's foundation and other local organizations." The Order of Canada was established in 1967 to recognize outstanding achievement, dedication to the community and service to the nation. It is one of Canada's highest civilian honors.
