Shawn Maxim has a diverse work experience spanning multiple industries and roles. Shawn began their career as an IT Consultant at Service First Network Support in 2008, where they were responsible for setting up and maintaining servers and ensuring system security. Shawn then joined Apple as an iOS Senior Specialist, where they monitored and analyzed new versions of iOS and Mac OS for security and usability concerns. At ethereal solid, Shawn worked as the Owner, Designer, and Developer, focusing on cleaning compromised Linux web servers and designing and maintaining websites.

In 2014, Shawn joined the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco as a Systems Consultant, where they researched and implemented software vulnerability patching processes and ensured compliance with FISMA and FRB regulations. Shawn successfully automated the vulnerability patching process, significantly reducing the time spent on it. Shawn then joined Okta, Inc. in 2016 as a Sr. Analyst, Security & Compliance, where they played a vital role in improving the company's security posture through FedRAMP compliance.

Within Okta, Inc., Shawn progressed to the role of Manager, Security & Compliance. In this role, they spearheaded the company's FedRAMP program and managed the entire Security Compliance team across the Public and Private sectors. Shawn worked closely with different departments to increase functional security and close security gaps using compliance standards.

Most recently, Shawn joined MongoDB in 2021 as a Lead Engineer.

Shawn Maxim completed their Associate of Science degree in Programming from American River College from 2007 to 2009. After that, they pursued their Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from California State University-Sacramento, which they achieved from 2011 to 2014. In addition to their academic achievements, Shawn also obtained a certification in Network+ from CompTIA in June 2008.
