Robert Carlson has a diverse work experience spanning several industries. Robert currently serves as the Sr. Vice President & Mid-Atlantic Regional Manager for Federal, International, State, and Technology at M&J Engineering, P.C. In this role, they are responsible for delivering high-quality engineering solutions to government, public, and private sector clients. Prior to this, Carlson worked as a Senior Military Advisor to the Assistant Secretary of the Army (M&RA), where they advised on total force management policies. Robert also served as the Commanding General of the USACE Transatlantic Division and the USAR 372nd Engineer Brigade, providing leadership and vision to support engineering and technical services. Additionally, they held positions as the Chief of Staff for the USAID Afghanistan Mission Directorate and Commander of the Contingency Response Unit for the US Army Corps of Engineers. Earlier in their career, they were the Branch Chief at the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, overseeing licensing actions and policy development for nuclear power plant operators. Overall, Carlson has extensive experience in management, strategic planning, and leadership roles across both government and private sectors.
Robert Carlson has a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Civil Engineering from the United States Military Academy at West Point. Robert also completed Military Operational Art and Science/Studies at the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College. Moreover, they hold a Master of Science (MS) degree in National Defense and Strategic Studies from The United States Army War College, as well as a Master of Science (MS) degree in Engineering/Industrial Management from the Missouri University of Science and Technology. Additionally, they have obtained certifications such as Secret/L Security Clearance from the U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) and Top Secret/SCI Security Clearance from the Defense Security Service. Robert has also completed General & Flag Officer National Defense Security Executive Education at Professional Development - Harvard Division of Continuing Education and Senior Executive Industry Leaders Training at UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School.
