Rui Barros has a diverse work experience in various fields, including academia and technology. In 1995, they started working at INESC TEC as an Area Manager, where they focused on research and development in areas such as digital local agenda, e-government, and software engineering. Rui later became the Innovation Manager and gained experience in managing national and European projects. In 2007, they became the Coordinator of ELANET, a network that aimed to promote new technologies and bridge the digital divide in local authorities. Rui held this position until 2015. Rui Barros also worked as a Faculty member at the International School on Digital Transformation in 2009. In 2015, they co-founded MITMYNID, a company that develops software-based solutions for transport and logistics. Rui served as the CEO and was responsible for developing innovative solutions for the industry. Since 2018, Rui Barros has been working as an Assistant Professor and Invited Lecturer at Instituto Politécnico do Porto. Currently, Rui Barros is a member of the OASIS Technical Committee of Universal Business Language (UBL). Their main contribution is improving the UBL to cover the needs for transport and logistics, particularly focusing on messages for electronic freight.
Rui Barros completed their education history with the following institutions. Rui pursued a Hi School education at Colégio de São Gonçalo until 1991. Later, in 1998, they completed their Graduation in Informatics Engineering at Instituto Superior Politécnico Gaya. Rui further pursued a Master's degree in Sciences in Informatics Engineering at Faculdade de Engenharia da Universidade do Porto, which they completed in 2009.
