Kathryn Thompson's work experience begins in 2008 at UCSF, where they worked as a Staff Research Associate I until 2010. Kathryn then progressed to the role of Staff Research Associate II in the Genome Analysis Core Facility, where they worked until 2014. In 2014, they were promoted to Staff Research Associate III in the same facility, and they stayed in this role until 2015. Following their time at UCSF, Kathryn joined CareDx, Inc. in 2015 as a Research Associate until 2017. Kathryn then moved on to Illumina, where they worked as an Associate Scientist 2 from 2017 to 2018. Since 2018, Kathryn has been working at Mission Bio, first as an Associate Scientist and later as a Scientist.

Kathryn Thompson obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Biochemistry and Cell Biology from UC San Diego, completing their studies from 2003 to 2007. Additionally, they obtained a Google Project Management Certificate from Coursera in May 2023.
