Asif Ahmed PhD FRSB has an extensive work experience in various academic and research positions. Asif is currently serving as the Executive Chairman and CEO of MirZyme Therapeutics, a biopharmaceutical company focused on developing targeted therapeutics to prevent preeclampsia. Asif is also a Senior Advisor to the President and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Southampton.
Prior to their current roles, Dr. Ahmed held a Distinguished Adjunct Professorship at King AbdulAziz University and was an Honorary Professor at Jilin University Sino-Japanese Union Hospital. Asif also served as the Founder of Aston Medical School at Aston University, where they were later appointed as the Pro-Vice-Chancellor & Executive Dean and Pro-Vice Chancellor for Health.
Before their time at Aston University, Dr. Ahmed was the Gustav Born Professor of Vascular Biology and Assistant Principal for International at the University of Edinburgh. Asif has also worked as a Visiting Professor at Stanford University and served as a Professor of Reproductive Physiology at the University of Birmingham. Asif started their academic career at the University of Cambridge as a Research Fellow.
Throughout their career, Dr. Ahmed has been actively involved in research and has made significant contributions to the field of vascular biology and preeclampsia prevention. Asif has published numerous papers and holds global patents in this area.
Asif Ahmed PhD FRSB began their education at Aylward School, where they received their High School/Secondary Diplomas and Certificates between 1971 and 1978. Asif then pursued a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Pharmacology at King's College London from 1980 to 1983. Afterwards, they continued their academic journey at UCL, obtaining a PhD in Medicine from 1986 to 1989.
