Dr. Lake is a Professor of Medicine and Surgery at the University of Minnesota Medical School. He is Executive Medical Director for Solid Organ Transplantation at the University of Minnesota Medical Center. He also serves as senior staff for liver at the Scientific Registry of Transplant Recipients. Dr. Lake received his medical degree from the University of Minnesota Medical School and completed his residency and fellowship training at the University of California, San Francisco. Prior to moving to the University of Minnesota, he helped start and subsequently served as the Medical Director of the Liver Transplant Program at the University of California, San Francisco.
Dr Lake’s research interests include management of acute liver failure, predictors of outcomes following liver transplantation and the allocation of organs for transplantation. He has authored more than 269 articles and more than 31 book chapters. Dr. Lake is a past Editor for Liver Transplantation and is on the Editorial Boards for several other scientific journals. In addition, Dr Lake is a past-president of the American Society of Transplantation and of the US Organ Procurement and Transplant Network and United Network for Organ Sharing. He is also a past-chair of the American Board of Internal Medicine Test and Policy Committee on Transplant Hepatology.
Dr. Lake received a Career Achievement Award in Clinical Research from the American Society of Transplantation and the Distinguished Service Award from International Liver Transplantation Society. He was the Thomas Starzl Lecturer at the American Association for the Study of Liver Disease meeting in 2017 and was elected to the Academy of Clinical Excellence at University of Minnesota Medical School in 2019.
