Todd Topper

Senior Manager, Collections at Minnesota Historical Society

Todd Topper has extensive experience in the museum and history industry. Todd is currently working as the Senior Manager of Collections at the Minnesota Historical Society since February 2023, where they oversee the conservation, registration, and collections management functions. Todd previously worked at the Ohio History Connection as the Collections Experience Project Manager from November 2016 to July 2019, where they were responsible for managing a transformational initiative and securing a $15M capital grant. Before that, they served as a Consultant at the Broomfield Depot Museum for a few months in 2016. Todd was also a Museum Relocation Team Member at the Kirkland Museum of Fine & Decorative Art for a short period in 2016. Additionally, they worked as a Guest Lecturer at the University of Denver in May 2016 and May 2014. Todd has a strong background in museum management, having served as the Director of Regional Museums for History Colorado from February 2014 to October 2015. In this role, they supervised six site directors and managed a division budget of $1.4M. Todd also held other positions at History Colorado, including Director of Collections Management from June 2004 to February 2014 and Registrar from March 2001 to June 2004. Todd began their career as an Associate Curator at the Institute of Paper Science and Technology from September 1999 to March 2001 and as a Registrar at the Evansville Museum of Arts, History & Science from May 1995 to September 1999. Overall, they have a wealth of experience in museum leadership and collections management.

Todd Topper has a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in History, which they obtained from the University of Southern Indiana from 1991 to 1995. Todd also completed a Project Management Workshop at the American Association for State and Local History in 2011. In addition, they attended the Campbell Center for Historic Preservation Studies in 1998 for a Packing and Shipping Workshop, and in 1996 for a Collections Management in Storage program. Todd also pursued a Bachelor of Arts - BA degree in American History (United States) at the University of Southern Indiana from 1991 to 1995.
