Mark Steel is a highly experienced professional in regulatory systems and international strategy, currently serving as the Director of Regulatory Systems at the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment since July 2015. In this role, Mark Steel ensures the consistency and quality of MBIE's regulatory policies across various domains, including corporate, competition, and health and safety. Previously, Mark Steel held the position of General Manager at MBIE, where responsibilities included shaping international strategies and advising senior leadership on engagement priorities. Additionally, Mark Steel served as Deputy Secretary at the Ministry of Economic Development for over a decade, managing a wide array of regulatory policies and economic strategies. Mark Steel holds a Master of Arts in Political Science and Government, a Bachelor of Laws, and is currently pursuing a Master of Public Policy at The Australian National University, complementing a solid educational foundation from the University of Canterbury and Christchurch Boys' High School.
