Tara Shepherd is a dedicated 21-year-old advocate for change, originating from Westport, with extensive experience in various leadership roles focused on disability representation and inclusivity. Currently serving as a member of the Youth Advisory Group at the Ministry for the Environment, Co-President of the National Disabled Students' Association, and a shared voice in the Te Poutāhū Disability Voices Group, Tara plays a key role in promoting student welfare and accessibility within education. Additional positions include elected roles at the Otago University Students' Association and the Disabled Persons Assembly NZ, alongside board membership at New Zealand Health Group's Whakapuāwai Taskforce. Tara holds a Bachelor of Applied Science in Politics and Environmental Management from the University of Otago and is engaged in multiple committees aiming to enhance support systems for disabled students across New Zealand.
