Jim Shoemaker ALPP has a diverse work experience in the legal industry. Jim began their career as a Paralegal at Whiteford, Taylor & Preston in 2001 and worked there until 2010. During this time, they gained experience managing discovery and selecting eDiscovery vendors.
In 2010, Shoemaker joined Miles & Stockbridge P.C. as a Manager of Litigation Support Technology and Paralegal. Jim was responsible for managing the discovery of electronically stored information and assessing best practices for searching and staging client ESI. Jim worked in this role until 2013.
From 2013 to 2014, Shoemaker transitioned to the role of Manager of Practice Support Programs at Miles & Stockbridge. In this position, they worked with firm management, legal teams, and clients to apply technology and develop innovative solutions for improving the delivery of legal services. Jim'sprimary responsibilities included electronic discovery, alternative fee arrangements, and legal project management.
In 2014, Shoemaker was promoted to Senior Manager of Project Management & Practice Support at Miles & Stockbridge. In this role, they implemented a firm-wide Legal Project Management framework to support lawyers in managing costs and achieving profitability. Jim also contributed to the formulation and application of pricing policy and strategy.
In 2016, Shoemaker became a Member of the Council of Advisors at True Value Partnering Institute. Jim joined virtual cohorts to network, learn, and advance their knowledge as a legal business professional.
In 2017, Shoemaker joined Prosperoware as a Customer Advisory Board Member, where they provided input and guidance on product development and improvement. Jim served in this role until 2018.
Currently, Shoemaker holds the position of Chief Legal Operations Officer at Miles & Stockbridge P.C., a role they have held since 2023. As a member of the firm's senior leadership team, they lead and sets strategy for a group of professionals supporting the firm's business intake, pricing, legal project management, practice solutions, and research & information functions. Shoemaker's main focus is streamlining operations, driving efficiency, and improving client service.
Jim Shoemaker ALPP completed their education at the Harvard Law School, where they obtained a specialized degree in Leadership in Law Firms in 2020. Prior to that, they attended the University of Maryland Baltimore County from 1996 to 2000, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree with a focus on Political Science and History. Alongside their formal education, Shoemaker also obtained additional certifications to enhance their professional skills. In 2018, they became an Accredited Legal Pricing Professional (ALPP) through the True Value Partnering Institute. In 2014, they obtained a Legal Lean Sigma White Belt certification from the Legal Lean Sigma Institute LLC. Lastly, in 2012, Shoemaker attained a certification in Legal Project Management from the LPM Institute.
