Nick Thomas

Electrification Strategy Consultant at Michigan Central

Nick Thomas has a diverse work experience spanning various roles and industries. Nick started their career at Roush Industries as a Test Driver & Vehicle Evaluation from February 2012 to July 2013. Subsequently, they worked at Classic & Exotic Services Inc. as a Computer Aided Manufacturing Engineer from June 2013 to May 2014. Nick then joined General Motors and held multiple positions, including Design Engineer - Internship (May 2014 to May 2015), Design Engineer - Instrument Panel & Interior (June 2015 to September 2020), Design Engineer - Cruise Automation (April 2017 to June 2018), Product Development - Innovation Lead (January 2018 to October 2021), and Supplier Innovation Accelerator Manager (September 2020 to April 2022). Nick Thomas then moved to Michigan Central as an Electrification Strategy Consultant from February 2023 onwards. Finally, they joined Newlab, where they currently hold the position of Program Project Manager since April 2022, and will transition to the role of Senior Manager Project Management in March 2023.

Nick Thomas has a diverse education history. Nick started their educational journey in 2008 at the General Motors Academy, where they completed an Academic Cohort in Mechanical Engineering. In 2008, they also obtained a Technical Certification in Vehicle Design & Engineering Academy from the Oakland Schools Technical Campus - Southwest.

Nick then transferred to Lawrence Technological University in 2010, where they pursued a degree in Transportation Design for two years. After that, they attended Central Michigan University from 2012 to 2015 and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Management with a focus on Product Design.

Continuing their education, Nick enrolled in the University of Detroit Mercy in 2017 and completed a Master of Science degree in Engineering/Technical Management in 2021.

In addition to their formal education, Nick has obtained several certifications to enhance their skills. In 2016, they completed Design for Six Sigma Green Belt training at General Motors. Later that year, they also earned a Design for Six Sigma Black Belt certification from the same institution. In 2017, Nick became a certified "iHub Way" - Design Thinking Coach from iHub @ GM. Most recently, in 2023, they obtained a certification in Analytical Thinking from the Michigan Ross School of Business Executive Education.
