Rick Huxel began their work experience in 1979 at British Alcan as a Senior Electrical Engineer. Rick worked in this role from October 1979 until October 2005. In 2008, they joined Metro-Tek Electrical Services as the Vice President of Engineering, where they continue to work.

Rick Huxel obtained their Masters degree in Electrical, Electronics and Communications Engineering from Penn State University. Rick pursued their education at the university from 1968 to 1973.
